Description: 1898 Aug 4, Remittance Certificate number '306' from Foochow to Amoy, the FEE panel with ICP 20c deep maroon, tied by a FOOCHOW dollar chop cancellation, the REMITTANCE panel with small surcharge '5$ on 3c' deep red, vertical pair, brilliant colour and uncancelled as usual, the adhesives tied by slight age spotting; exceptional condition /
Note: The rate for a 10 dollar remittance from Foochow to Amoy, fully paid 20 cents in Foochow. Certificates '305' and '306', both similarly franked, originally appeared in auction in Zurich between 1990 and 1991, having been in the possession of the descendants of the person to whom they were commissioned in 1898. Certificate number '305' was subsequently auctioned by Sotheby's in Hong Kong of Nov 7 1996.
